The Story

Picture
When I first started my career I used a "legacy" textbook- the book that had always been used to teach the class, and for which students paid over $100. Equal access and low cost education became a growing priority for me as I became  increasingly aware of the various life challenges facing my community college students. Out of resistance to the textbook industrial complex, which adds massive hidden costs to public education, I wrote my own book.  After more than a decade my text is still one of the lowest priced text books in the field of Communication.  Writing the text not only allows me to offer a low cost book, but gives me the freedom to include content that is relevant to my students' lives, to showcases their various identities, and to highlight cutting edge research focused on fostering a more inclusive society. I loved writing this book and I really enjoy offering it to my students- but no one is required to buy it. Check out the link above for the free version.
